Capcom fixes Street Fighter V just in time for PSN’s server-breaking free weekend

Since it was launched, Street Fighter V has been plagued with issues, most notably, the fact that people weren't able to log in to actually play the game online. The good news is that Capcom has fixed most of the glaring issues with the online component of the game and promises a smoother experience from here on out.

The potential bad news? This fix coincides with PlayStation Plus being free to everyone this weekend, which means servers could go down due to the stress of so many people signing in.

For those who don't know, PlayStation Plus (PS+) is the PlayStation Network's paid subscription service which, on top of offering free games each month, is required to play games online. Though I don't personally know anyone who owns a PlayStation 4 who doesn't also have PS+, there are some folks out there who are (somehow) enjoying the PS4 without it. This free weekend is exactly for people to try the service out for themselves and hopefully plunk down the $50 subscription fee.

All of these extra people on PS+ could overburden the PSN servers and make it hard to play any online games, though. This would be a cruel bit of irony for people who've been trying to play Street Fighter V this entire time only for PS+ to crap out on them. Instead of it being Capcom's fault it would be Sony's, but the end results would still lead to being unable to play SFV online with your friends.

For now, let's hope that things go smoothly and that everyone is able to enjoy playing online on PS4 this weekend. For a rundown of the fixes Capcom has implemented to SFV, click here.
